Hey party people, it’s DJ iSizzle. Today, I’m stepping away from the decks and into the world of cinematic adrenaline. I’ve been watching, analyzing, and obsessing over the Mission: Impossible franchise for decades, and it’s time to give each movie the attention it deserves.
If you know me, you know I love music that moves your heart and gets your pulse racing. Well, these films? They do the same thing—but with spies, stunts, and impossible odds. I’ll rank every movie based on action, story, character development, and replay value, but let’s be honest: all of them are my favorites.
Ranking System
Before we get rolling, here’s how I’m scoring each film:
- Action & Stunts (0–10): How jaw-dropping, inventive, and edge-of-your-seat the action is.
- Story & Plot (0–10): How engaging, twist-filled, and memorable the narrative is.
- Character Development (0–10): Depth, growth, and charisma of the characters.
- Replay Value (0–10): How much I want to watch it again (and again).
Each movie will get a total score out of 40, plus my personal “DJ iSizzle Vibes” score, because sometimes a movie just hits differently, like the perfect drop at a festival.
1. Mission: Impossible (1996)
Characters: Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), Jim Phelps (Jon Voight), Claire Phelps (Emmanuelle Béart), Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames), Franz Krieger (Jean Reno).
Brian De Palma’s original Mission: Impossible is a suspense masterpiece. The plot revolves around Ethan Hunt, who is framed for the deaths of his team. The twisty story and memorable NOC list heist scene are legendary.
Action & Stunts: 8/10
While it may not have the jaw-dropping stunts of later films, the tension and creativity are unmatched. The iconic vault scene—Ethan suspended from the ceiling in a high-security room—is still one of the greatest moments in action cinema.
Story & Plot: 9/10
A labyrinthine web of betrayals and double-crosses makes this a puzzle you want to solve. The reveal of Jim Phelps as the traitor is shocking even today.
Character Development: 8/10
Ethan Hunt emerges as a smart, resourceful protagonist. Luther Stickell, although introduced as a secondary character, becomes a fan favorite in later installments.
Replay Value: 9/10
Its clever twists and suspenseful scenes make this a film I can watch repeatedly.
Total: 34/40
DJ iSizzle Vibes: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Behind the Scenes: De Palma’s use of long takes and intricate camera movements elevates the tension. Plus, the iconic theme music by Lalo Schifrin has become synonymous with espionage excitement.
2. Mission: Impossible 2 (2000)
Characters: Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), Nyah Nordoff-Hall (Thandie Newton), Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott), Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames).
Directed by John Woo, this installment focused heavily on style and action. The villain, Sean Ambrose, steals the deadly Chimera virus, and Ethan must stop him.
Action & Stunts: 9/10
From motorcycle chases through winding roads to cliffside climbing, the stunts are visually stunning. Woo’s signature slow-motion sequences give it a unique flair.
Story & Plot: 7/10
The plot is more straightforward than the first film. The romance subplot between Ethan and Nyah adds stakes but sometimes slows the pace.
Character Development: 7/10
Ethan remains compelling, Ambrose is charismatic, and Nyah adds emotional depth—but the story leans heavily on action rather than character.
Replay Value: 8/10
The thrill of the stunts makes this movie worth multiple viewings.
Total: 31/40
DJ iSizzle Vibes: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Fun Fact: This was the first Mission: Impossible to really embrace Woo’s stylistic “gun ballet” and balletic action choreography. You can almost see it in slow motion, like a perfectly mixed drop in a DJ set.
3. Mission: Impossible III (2006)
Characters: Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), Lindsey Farris (Keri Russell), Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman), Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames), Declan Gormley (Jonathan Rhys Meyers).
J.J. Abrams brought a more grounded and emotionally resonant story. Owen Davian is one of the most terrifying villains in the franchise, and Ethan’s personal stakes are higher than ever.
Action & Stunts: 9/10
The elevator fight scene, as well as the Vatican heist and rooftop escapes, are high-tension action set pieces that feel real and dangerous.
Story & Plot: 9/10
The plot balances thrilling espionage with personal stakes. Ethan’s love for his fiancée Julia gives the story a human heart.
Character Development: 9/10
Ethan is more human here, showing vulnerability. Davian is one of the franchise’s most memorable villains. Supporting characters like Luther Stickell and Declan Gormley enhance the team dynamic.
Replay Value: 9/10
With clever plot twists and engaging action, this movie is always fun to rewatch.

The airplane hangar sequence, underwater escape, and high-speed chases are some of the best in the franchise. Cruise’s practical stunts bring authenticity.

High-speed chases, hand-to-hand combat, and jaw-dropping set pieces define this film. It’s the most cinematic and intense in the series yet.
